We’re pleased to announce that Jamie Morgan, owner and principal assessor at ESI: Fire Safety, has been formally admitted as a member of the British Fire Services Association (BFSA).
It’s a milestone that reflects the professional standards we hold ourselves to, and one we’re proud to share with our clients and contacts across Surrey and the surrounding area.
About the British Fire Services Association
The British Fire Services Association is one of the UK’s longest-established fire safety organisations.
Founded to represent and support the wider fire services community, it brings together professionals from across the sector: operational firefighters, fire safety engineers, consultants, equipment suppliers, and those working in fire risk management and compliance.
Membership of the BFSA is not automatic.
It is open to individuals who can demonstrate relevant experience, a commitment to professional standards, and an active interest in the ongoing development of fire safety practice in the UK.
Being admitted as a member places Jamie within a community of serious fire safety professionals, and signals to clients and peers alike that ESI: Fire Safety is operating at a recognised professional level.
What this means for our clients
For businesses and landlords commissioning a fire risk assessment, credentials matter.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that assessments are carried out by a competent person, but it does not define competence rigidly.
In practice, professional membership of a recognised body is one of the clearest ways a fire risk assessor can demonstrate that they meet the standard.
BFSA membership sits alongside Jamie’s existing qualifications and professional registrations, and provides clients with an additional layer of assurance.
It means that the assessor carrying out your fire risk assessment is not operating in isolation, but is part of a wider professional community with shared standards and expectations.
It also reflects something we’ve always believed at ESI: Fire Safety. This is not a box-ticking exercise. A properly conducted fire risk assessment, carried out by a competent professional, can make a genuine difference to the safety of a building and the people in it.
Professional recognition reinforces that commitment.
“Being admitted to the BFSA is something I’m genuinely proud of. It reflects the seriousness with which I approach this work. Fire safety isn’t just a compliance exercise; done properly, it protects people’s lives.”
— Jamie Morgan, ESI: Fire Safety
A commitment to ongoing professional development
Fire safety is not a static field. The Grenfell Tower Inquiry has prompted significant changes to how fire safety is regulated and enforced in the UK, and the Building Safety Act 2022 has introduced new obligations for those working with higher-risk buildings.
Guidance continues to be updated, and the expectations placed on responsible persons and competent assessors continue to evolve.
Maintaining professional memberships, engaging with the wider fire safety community, and keeping up to date with legislative and guidance changes is part of what it means to be a competent assessor.
BFSA membership supports that ongoing development and ensures that ESI: Fire Safety remains current in its approach and advice.
